I bought this at a local Best Buy/Pacific Sales to replace a previous kitchen aid counter top to built in conversion. First the good stuff. The appearance is very nice and the operation is also very nice. Overall I am extremely happy. Now for the gripes which are really meant to be about product improvement. First the lighting on the inside. It has been said before that the interior lighting is poor. While this is true, the light does seem to shine directly on what is cooking to give an almost a theatrical effect. Still, I wish the interior light was brighter. Second, no timer. I was completely unaware that this unit did not have a timer. Even after my last microwave broke, I still used the timer. Now I just have a magnetic timer on the unit but it baffles me why the unit would not have a timer. Third, install quirks. I installed the unit myself and it went pretty smoothly. The instructions state that when drilling holes into the cabinet to secure the microwave, that these should be 5/32" holes. Most cabinetry is pretty dense if it is real wood. The instructions should have specified 3/16". I broke my Craftsman T10 Torx screwdriver putting this in and had to remove and substitute for a normal Phillips after slightly enlarging the pilot hole. That brings me to the next point. Why did they specify Torx screws? I did have a Torx set but not for my power drill/screwdriver which made me have to do this by hand which was made more difficult when they spec'd a drill bit that was too small. Lastly, once I got the microwave mounted to the cabinet and I put on the outer panels, one of the pre-drilled holes in the panel was stripped and could not accommodate the included Torx screw. I had to find a slightly upsized screw to place in the hole but the way that the mounting hole was manufactured seemed rather cheap and this caused the panel on the left not to mount uniformly as it is on the right. When you pay $1500 for a microwave, you should not have to deal with these things.

We originally bought this microwave 2 years ago. It worked approximately 6 months out of the 2 years we owned it. Lowes finally reimbursed us for the cost under their Lemon Policy (we had the extended service policy). Silly me buys the exact same microwave because it matched all of our other KA appliances. And of course I thought "no way could this happen twice". Guess what - the new one failed after 30 days of use. KA, what is going on?! This is not a cheap microwave....
Love the features

Replaced a built-in microwave with this model. Easy to use but it doesn’t have a timer that you can use without cooking. Had that on the last KitchenAid over-the-cooktop model and really miss it. Love the door which pulls down but it doesn’t pull down all the way to be level and flat, which impedes placing items in the microwave or taking them out easily. And why does a built-in microwave have to cost SO much more than one mounted above a cooktop??
Not the best

Built a house and this microwave was installed. With the drop down door it is not the best for a built-in microwave as the door gets in your way with it being a little bit high in the Cabinetry. We have had problems and had to have the repairman come out and we'll probably have to have him come out again. Also there is not a timer (for side use) built into the microwave.
