This microwave is great. But all of a sudden there is a large crack on the outside glass. It just happened out of no where. Do you know what that could be from and is it still safe to use?
Excellent!

Purchased on Christmas eve when a great Microwave (not GE) died after 10+ years. Could not find newest version of that model in stock anywhere and I needed microwave immediately as family was arriving for Christmas. I noticed on the store model that the open door button would not open unless the very top of the button was depressed. I liked the variable power feature and in the hour I spent researching, I determined that this was a mandatory feature. Took it home and installed it on the counter since the outlet and the microwave plug did not align. I later added an additional outlet and solved this problem. GE could have solved it with an right angle plug like my old microwave had. THE GOOD 1. Very hot, 5% hotter than last oven 2. Sensor reheat, Works well, a little hot for some foods, never fails to deliver hot food. 3. Nice large display/ selection panel 4. Large cavity 5. Rotating plate works well 6. Easy to clean THE BAD AND UGLY 1. Poorly designed door open switch. GE should recall this. It will break and will not be covered by warranty. This should have been a showstopper for me and I should have returned the microwave to the store immediately. 2. The power Level does not work like all modern microwaved work. It works about as well as the earliest digital clocks. The power level must be pressed and repressed until the desired level is selected. Then the time must be entered. Directions are "hidden" in the manual. On line GE documentation for all GE microwave operation states that you can enter the cook time followed my the power button and then the digit for the level. That appears to work, but it does not. No error indication is provided, it just leaves the power on high and overcooks your food. I finally tested the power operation on water and then operation was obvious, researched the manual and was able to do power "correctly, but painfully". 3. All the sensor buttons basically do the same thing. There is insufficient documentation in the manual and very little help via the control panel. My 10 year old microwave had a list of the operations for sensor cooking on the inside of the door which was adequate. So it is just a bunch of confusing buttons with inconsistant operation. 4. The power level failed completely. I had not registered the product since I was already planning to return it to the store. and was unable to find any help on the GE site. The help was mostly fluff and not for real problems. I took it back to the store, but was told that returns were allowed for only 30 days. I had returned items from the "big box" store several time and thought return time was 60-90 days for appliances, guess they have a different rule for some appliances. Now I am stuck with this lemon. Remembering that some appliances have faulty firmware which can be reset by pulling the plug for 10 seconds, I realized that there was a chance that the pulling the plug when I tried to return the microwave might have "fixed" it. It did. It is still an overpriced poorly designed human interface with a broken open door button.
Attractive and functional

My over-the-stove microwave went out so I decided to get a countertop model until I could get a replacement. I am so excited about this microwave because it is easy to use the power feature and it has so many selections for side dishes such as potatoes, vegetables, rice, etc. With the popcorn feature you select the size of the bag you are popping. So far, I love this microwave!
