We replaced our existing range hood with this sleek modern looking microwave. It looks and functions perfectly. Unfortunately it makes the rest of our appliances look a bit shabby. Now we need to get a Kitchenaid oven and fridge to match. Yikes!!!! This just became a very expensive microwave (LOL).

I purchased this almost two months ago. Paying more money for less microwave space seemed odd until we realized what we were gaining: very valuable cooking space on our cooktop. We can stir large pots of sauce on the back burner without hitting our arms on the greasy underside of a full-sized mounted microwave. Also, the sleek design looks more like a fancy hood than a microwave. The fan is loud, but it clears the air immediately. The lighting is wonderfully bright. But do you want to know the best part? I reheated fettuccine alfredo on the "Melt Chocolate" setting, and the sauce DID NOT SEPARATE. I then reheated my child's macaroni and cheese: it stayed creamy, evenly heated, and did not separate. This is HUGE!!!!! I find I'm using my microwave more than I ever did. If you are looking for more stovetop room, I would highly recommend this product.

Overall, the idea is fabulous- a low profile microwave that also vents. Only problem, which is an annoyance almost every time we use the unit, is that the ring wheel supporting the glass plate is unstable. If an item is not place in the center of the glass plate, the plate can tilt because it is not well supported by the triangular ring. Also, it is very easy to knock the plate and ring out of line when adding or removing a dish. The ring itself floats freely and gets out of place easily. We placed the unit high (but lower than the manufacture's highest recommendation), so, even though I am taller than average, I have to get a step stool to line it up properly. This problem is especially dangerous when heating liquids.

Have had this KitchenAid product for over a month now and we are very pleased with its profile, cooking/heating prowess and all of its features. We did see the Whirlpool sister product at a slightly cheaper price, but decided on the premium product. It's a great product and was particularly pleased with the powerful vent underneath.
