I purchased this model after reviewing Whirlpool's website. My last compactor was 21 years old, still running without ever having any issues. It had a filter, filter switch, filter fan, and a filter cover. It also had the solid pack feature, which doubles the capacity of the trash by locking the ram in the down position. This feature keeps the trash compressed so when the ram does comes back up, the trash doesn't spring back up, giving you less room to add trash. As you can see, the website says it comes with the solid pack. The compactor is WORTHLESS without this feature. They removed this "top of the line" compactor feature and the filter. They were also too cheap to retool the panel, so now it shows where the filter switch and solid pack switch should be, along with a gaping hole that should have a filter fan, charcoal filter, and filter cover. As far as value, my old Whirlpool with all of the features, was $425 brand new in 1997, which is $660 based on inflation. The Whirlpool rep said this feature never existed, even though the cardboard cutout that came with the compactor shows it; go figure!
Love the sleek look

Love the convenience of the “no hands needed to open”. Also only have to toe touch for operation. Never necessary to clean or empty my hands while working in my kitchen to open or compact!
Shipped with a faulty switch

Ordered in Mid April and delivered early May. The compactor didn’t work correctly the day it was installed. The compacting ram would run down and back up but a switch was broken so it didn’t know to stop running. The result was a jackhammer sound. I was able to diagnose the problem in approximately 10 minutes. It took whirlpool 4 days to get someone out to look at it. It took the actual repair person 30 minutes and video conference call to figure out what was going on. That was 4 days ago. Supposed to be fixed today...
