Afraid of my washer and dryer!

I was absolutely blessed to enjoy an average priced Maytag set for 38 years. The dryer never had a service call but the washer eventually became too expensive to keep repaired. I researched for a month before choosing Speed Queen but, to be honest, I wish I'd never seen them, particularly the dryer. I do not believe the "timer" makes sense. I have totally destroyed multiple items, melted 8 baby blankets, melted nylon and polyester in various items, and feel like I absolutely have to stand and monitor the heat every few minutes. I've been sewing for over 50 years, know a LOT about fabrics, and I am not exaggerating when I say my dryer scares me! I can set it for 15 minutes and melt just about anything. I am hanging clothes outside to dry...something I have never felt I had to do! The washer, even on the most delicate cycle, can easily tear fabrics. I wish I could say I like this set because of what I paid for it, thinking it must be great, and now I am so disappointed and frustrated, I do not know what to do! My husband wants to try to sell it but I'm not going to do that.
