Damper Bangs When Breezy

If your hood is being used in an open concept home beware that the damper bangs when the wind picks up a little, and interferes with listening to the TV or radio. Bang- bang- bang bang- Kitchenaid said it’s not installed properly, Lowe’s says it is. Because the damper is designed to open when the fan is turned on and it doesn’t have a separate electronic or mechanical control (like your fireplace damper), I tend to think it’s a design issue. The damper has to be light enough to open when the fan is turned on from below, and heavy enough to stay closed when a breeze blows by from above. OR Kitchenaid could have supplied a material to prevent the two metals- the damper and the duct- from hitting each other. Some sort of a cushion seal. Based on the number of complaints on the web, I suspect Kitchenaid is well aware of the issue. I also think it’s not an installation issue because according to the one woman I spoke with there are only two screws used to assemble the damper.
Awesome value!
